The Treaty of Sugauli was signed between Nepal and British India in 1816 with the boundary taken as the marking of the Mahakali River.
Nepal was the Empire of Gorkhas, hence this was the agreement signed between Gurka's chief and British India. Nepal- India relationship is said to be the relation of friendship and peace also called as 'roti-beti' relationship.
River Mahakali also called the Sharda River originates at Kalapani.
