b. A drop of ink placed on the surface of water contained in a beaker spreads throughout the water.

a) The temperature remains constant because the heat energy is used in changing the state of matter, breaking intermolecular forces and forces of attraction between the molecules.

b) Liquid (water) have spaces between their molecules and are loosely packed with less intermolecular forces between them hence when a drop of ink is dropped in water, the ink takes the space between the molecules of water and hence it spreads.

c) Ice floats on water, although it's density is low because of it's structure. Ice have a cage like structure with a air cavity present inside it. Therefore it floats on water.
