Account for the following: a) The smell of lighted incense stick reaches you faster you several metres away but to get the smell from unlighted incense stick you have to go close. b) A wooden chair is a solid at room temperature. c) Water coolers are not effective on a rainy day.

a) When an incense stick is lighted, the incense molecules diffuse with the air easily and the fragrance becomes more intense. An unlighted incense stick does not have this property and the fragrance can be smelt, only by getting close to it.

b) Wood has all the properties of a solid and hence a chair made of wood will remain a solid.

c) On rainy days, the cool rainwater brings down atmospheric temperature and temperature is generally cool outside as well as within a room. Hence water coolers are not required nor is it very effective during rainy days.

Particle of the respective matter are continuously moving and it has special movement of the particles which increase the temperature .


Therefore the it start to smell of lighter when stick reaches in several metres away due to the major diffusion.


And it is sublimes due to it directly convert into the part of the vapor as well as it disaper without support of the leaving any solid stage.
