When enough amount of oxygen is not supplied to the muscles during continuous excercise, Lactic acid accumulates in the muscles(due to anaerobic respiration) and causes cramp. After sometime when enough amount of oxygen is supplied it undergoes aerobic respiration and the Lactic acid is broken down in the liver
