Ethyl alcohol (ethanol) can be converted to acetic acid(ethanoic acid) , by oxidation reaction.
This reaction is done in the presence of oxidising agents like alkaline potassium permanganate (KMnO₄) or acidified Potassium dichromate(K₂Cr₂O₇).                                                      alkaline KMnO₄
CH₃CH₂OH       --------------------------> CH₃COOH
                           acidified K₂Cr₂O₇
(Oxidation reaction - addition of oxygen {or removal of hydrogen} is known as oxidation reaction)
