Acetylene form metal acetylides but dimethyl acetylene does not form acetylides because it does not contain hydrogen.

The explanation for the answer  is

  • When acetylene reacts with ammonical silver nitrate  AgNO3 solution or ammoniacal cuprous chloride Cu2Cl2 solution or sodamide, It forms an acetylide
  • Acetylides contain acidic hydrogens. which means that  the electrons of the C-H bond in 1-alkynes will be more strongly held by the carbon nucleus
  • and there will be easy removal of hydrogen as a proton.
  • Acetylides are the carbides which are prepared with acetylene.
