Achievement and drawbacks of Dalton atomic theory
Answers
John Dalton was one of the scientists who dealt with atomic theory. He called the smallest part of an element as atom. He came up with many postulates of atomic theory:
1) Atoms neither can be created nor can be destroyed.
2) Atoms are the indivisible parts of different elements.
3) Atoms of same elements have similar properties. Atoms of different elements differ in all aspects.
4) Many atoms combine together to form a compound. They do so in a simple whole number ratio.
Among these postulates, many of them are incorrect. Atoms are not indivisible- they are further divided into sub atomic particles like protons, neutrons and electrons.
So this is a drawback of the atomic theory by Dalton.
But, atoms of same elements have similar properties, and the atoms of different elements differ in all aspects, this is true, because no two elements have same atomic property. So this is an achievement.
