Concept Understanding :-

● Acid are the substances which contain hydrogen and which when dissolved in water gives hydrogen ions ( H+) in the solution.

● Metals are defined as those elements which do not possess lustre when freshly cut and are malleable, ductile and good conductor of heat and electricity. They also defined as those elements which lose electrons and form positive ions I.e they are electropositive in nature.

● The oxides of metals are basic in nature.

● Sodium, potassium are active metals because they are having only one electrons in valence shell. so they have to lose one electron to achieve electronic configuration.

Answer :-

Acids when react with active metals like sodium, zinc, magnesium etc generally with the evolution of hydrogen gas.

Acid + Active Metal - gives - + Metal salt + Hydrogen gas .

Some examples of this reaction :-

● Zn + dil. H2SO4 gives ZnSO4 + H2

● Zn + 2HCl gives ZnCl2 + H2

Remember :- Whenever acid reacts with base it forms salt + water but if it reacts a with a substance which is electropositive in nature then it forms salt + hydrogengas or sometimes CO2 but salt is common in such types of reactions .
