Acid rain
Burning of coal, firewood aur petroleum produces sulphur and nitrogen which react with the oxygen
in the atmosphere and get converted into their respective oxides sulphur dioxide and nitrogen
dioxide. These oxides in turn, react with the water vapour present in the atmosphere to form acids
like sulphuric acid and nitric acid. These acids precipitate with rain to form acid rain.
Many monuments such as Taj Mahal in Agra have been affected by Acid Rain. A chemical reaction
between the acid in the rain and the buildings lead to corrosion of the surface
