Acidic do not show acidic behaviour in absence of water but do so in water Justify the statement with help of example?

acid wnt a material medium to release H+ ion while reacting hence they dont show acidic behaviour in ab of water

acid do not show acidic character in absence of water because I'm absence of water, the hydrogen ion is not released. in water, acid release hydrogen ions which forms hydronium ions which are responsible for acidic character.

for example,
if we pass HCl gas to dry blue coloured litmus paper, it will not change into red colour. and if we pass HCl gas to wet blue coloured litmus paper, it will change into red colour.
