Activation of benzene ring in aniline can be decreased by treating with acetyl chloride as aniline will give acetanilide.

                             In case of aniline, the lone pair over the nitrogen atom is fully involved in conjugation with pi orbitals of phenyl nucleus and benzene ring gets activated.

                            In case of acetanilide,the lone pair over the nitrogen atom is involved in conjugation with C=O of acetyl group.Hence extent of conjugation with pi orbitals of phenyl nucleus decreases and activation of benzene ring gets reduced.
