Activity 2
Aim: To study the effect of saliva on food.
Materials: spoon, boiled rice, water, beaker, test tubes (2), iodine solution, marker pen,
two glass rods
Procedure:
Mark the test tubes as A and B with the help of a marker pen.
Take one tablespoon of boiled rice in test tube A and add 3-5ml of water to it. Stir
the mixture with a glass rod.
Take one tablespoon of boiled chewed rice in test tube B and add 3-5ml of water to
it. Stir the mixture with a glass rod.
Add 2 drops of iodine solution to both the test tubes and observe the colour change.
· Observation:
Color change
Test Tube
Test tube "A"
Test tube "B"
Conclusion: Saliva breaks down the starch present in food to simple sugars.​
