(a) In vertical position, the brick produces more pressure in powedered lime

Explanation:

(a) We know that

Pressure = Thrust / Area

Here, thrust is nothing but the normal force due to the weight of the brick

Thus, it is clear that for the same amount of thrust if the area of contact is less the pressure will be more

Since the area of contact of the brick is minimum when the brick is in vertical position

Therefore, the pressure in (a) i.e. when the brick is in vertical position will be maximum

(b) Given area of contact A = 0.02 m²

    Weight of brick W = 30 N

Therefore, thrust F = W = 30 N

Pressure = Thrust/Area of contact

Thus,

Pressure = 30/0.02 N/m²

               = 1500 Pa
