Whistling and clicking of the tongue is how most people call a dog to get it’s attention. If that’s so, then how come 38 percent of women are whistled at monthly, and almost 95 percent at least once? Why is okay to use behaviors that humans reserve for dogs on women? Street harassment is a serious issue that needs to be stop, and although many men think a catcall is a compliment for many women it’s uncomfortable and threatening.

Street harassment affects women’s lives more than people think. Because of street harassment women are constantly on guard and fearful on the streets. According to online survey by Stop Street Harassment, 62 percent of women are constantly checking their surrounding and 69 percent of women avoid making eye contact with others.…show more content…

In same survey, women said that they often cross the street or take different routes to avoid harassers. They also avoid going out at night or being alone. Everyone should be able to feel safe on the street and be able to use public spaces without the fear of being harassed on the street. This is the reason why street harassment needs to be stop.

If street harassment makes women so uncomfortable why do men think it’s okay? One answer is that it is men don’t see anything wrong with it. In response to a question asking what motivates street harassment Kareem Watkins said, “A lot of times it 's like pressure amongst men to like, you know, put on a show in front of each other,” in other words that women are just a competition for men. He go on to blame the victim by saying, “Did her mom tell her how to wear that? It 's all about how you 're raised… Women get treated the way they allow themselves to get treated." It never occurs to him that how someone dresses does not give you the right to yell obscene comments at them
