ACTIVITY NO. 1
Alm :To show the presence of starch in the leaves by the process of
photosynthesis
Matorial Required Test tube .bunsen burner given ethanol, red beaker, petri
dish iodine solution.
Theory:Green plants prepare their food by the process of photosynthesis. This food
is stored in the form of starch. Starch turns blue-black in colour in the presence of
lodine solution.
Procedure:
1. Dip a leaf into boiling water for about a minute (to soften it).
2. Tum off the burner
3. Put the leaf into the test tube filled with ethanol(to remove chlorophyll).
4. Stand the test tube in a beaker of hot water for about ten minutes.
5. Wash the leaf in the cold water.
6. Spread the leat out flat on a petri dish and cover it with lodine solution test for
starch).
