Activity- Objective To represent the products of the following decimal numbers on a grid paper: (1) 0.3 x 0.7 (11) 0.5 x 0.5 Materials Required (a) Six grid papers (b) Two sketch pens of different colours (red and blue) Theory Method of multiplication of two decimal numbers: Step 1. Multiply the two decimals without the decimal points just like whole numbers. Step 2. Mark the decimal point in the product in such a way that the number of decimal places in the product is equal to the sum of the decimal places in the given decimals. Therefore, we have: (1) 0.3 0.7 = 0.21, (u) 0.5 x 0.5 = 0.25. Procedure Step 1. Take the grid papers and cut 10 x 10 grids from each of them. Step 2. Take one 10 x 10 grid and shade three columns using the red sketch pen. The shaded area of the grid represents the decimal number 0.3 and appears as shown in Figure (i). = .

Given:

The set of decimal numbers to be represented on a grid paper are:

(i) 0.3 x 0.7

(ii) 0.5 x 0.5

To Find:

We have to represent the products of the given decimal numbers on a grid paper.

Solution:

In order to represent the products of the given decimal numbers on a grid paper, first we have to find the product of given decimal numbers.

(i)  0.3 × 0.7 = \frac{0.3}{10} × \frac{0.7}{10} = \frac{21}{100} .

(ii) 0.5 × 0.5 = \frac{0.5}{10} × \frac{0.5}{10} = \frac{25}{100} = \frac{1}{4}.

Steps to represent these decimal products on a grid paper:

  • Take a 10 × 10 grid paper.
  • Shade 7 columns with green colour to represent 0.7 and shade 3 rows with red colour to represent 0.3. (Similarly, shade 5 columns with blue colour and 5 rows with orange to represent 0.5 in the case of second set of given decimals.)
  • Then count the number of grids were both these colours had overlapped. Here it is 21.
  • Therefore, the product of the decimals 0.7 and 0.3 is \frac{21}{100}.

Hence the products of the following decimal numbers are \frac{21}{100} and \frac{1}{4}.

The representation of the products of the given decimal numbers on a grid paper is given below:

Answer:

Yes, the above answer is correct....

Step-by-step explanation:

But in a Activity form it is represented like-

Objective -To represent the product of - 0.7×0.3 and 0.5 ×0.5 in 10 by 10 grid lines...

Method - Step1- ( in 0.3 × 0.7 ) Colour 3 lines. vertically and 7 lines horizontally .

Step2 -Count the intersecting lines nd observe.

Observation - Hence, we observed that the product of decimals 0.3 and 0.7 is 21.....

Hope it will help you
