ACTIVITY
OBJECTIVE
To see that shapes having equal areas may not have equal perimeters.
MATERIAL REQUIRED
Pencil, eraser, ruler, adhesive, colours.
STEPS FOR THE ACTIVITY
1) Draw a 10 × 10 square grid.
2) Colour 7 complete squares adjacent to each other to get a shape as shown below (Fig. 1).
3) Now, colour 7 other complete squares to make a shape different from previous shape (as shown in Fig. 2 to Fig. 5).
4) Find the perimeter of each shape so formed and write your observations in the following table.
5) Therefore, if the areas of two or more shapes are same then it is not necessary that their perimeters are also equal.
