Activity
Observe the speed of your nearby objects on the earth, in air and water. By observing the distance travelled and time taken, find out the speed of these objects.
1. Speed of boat in water
If distance travelled by boat in 10 min is 600 m
Then speed of boat = 600/10 = 60 m/min
2. Speed of car
If distance travelled by car in 1 hour is 80 km
Then speed of car = 80/lk = 80 km/h
3. Speed of bird
If distance travelled by a bird in 30 sec is 90 m
Then speed of bird = 90/30 = 3 m/sec
4. Take two plastic bottles.
Fill sand in one bottle, cap the bottle and make a hole into the cap.
Fit another plastic bottle on it without cap and make a model of sand watch.

The speed of bird is 1 m/sec and speed of car is 80 km/h/.

Explanation:

(a) Speed of boat in water  If distance travelled by boat in 10 min is 600 m

As we know that 1 minute = 60 seconds

10 minutes = 10 x 60 600 seconds

Then speed of boat = distance / time

speed of boat  = 600/600 = 1 m/sec

(b) Speed of car  If distance travelled by car in 1 hour is 80 km

Then speed of car = distance / time

Speed of car = 80/ 1 k = 80 km/h
