Take a strip of Mg ribbon and clean it by rubbing with a sandpaper. Hold the strip of Mg ribbon with the help of tons over a watch glass. Burn the Mg ribbon with the non-luminous flame of a Bunsen burner. Mg ribbon burns with a dazzling flame and white powder is collected on a watch glass kept below the flame. The white powder is Magnesium Oxide formed by the reaction of Mg and O present in air
