Lightning is due to colliding of clouds which are electrostatically charged that gives rise to friction and lightning.

Lightning is always accompanied by thunder.

The speed of sound is 3 * 108m/s.

And the speed of sound is 346 m/s(given)

As the speed of light is higher and the distance covered is in terms of kilometres, we can take the time taken for the lightning to appear as negligible or zero.

The activity is the moment at which lightning is seen. We can start a timer spontaneously after the lightning is seen until we hear a thunder.

Let say the time lag between lightning and thunder is 10 seconds.

Multiply 10 with the speed of sound = 10 * 346 = 3460 m (the distance of the clouds from the observer).
