Answer:
The size and formality of the company can affect how the intro process starts. In a small company, you might casually meet people when you walk into the office. In a larger company, you might meet a few people when you arrive.
If your new boss or the person handling your orientation doesn't handle the intros for you, ask to meet the team. Let the person know you're eager to get to know everyone.
You may meet people as you go if you don't have a formal orientation or onboarding process. Whenever you come across someone new during your first few days, let them know who you are, and use the intro to figure out who they are and how you might end up interacting with them at work.
You might ask for a company organizational chart to get an idea of who is on the team. You can use the chart to figure out whom you've met so far and whom you still need to meet. Check with your supervisor or your human resources contact to get a copy of the chart.
Examples:
"Will I get a chance to meet my colleagues this morning before we get started with the orientation?"
"I'm so excited to get started today. I've already met a few people, but would it be possible for us to go around together and meet the people I'll be working with most often?"
"I see on the schedule that we have a staff meeting this morning. Will I have a chance to introduce myself at that time?"
"I'm starting to get a feel for the different team members and their roles. I'm still not completely sure on the entire team. May I get a copy of the company organizational chart, so I get it all straight and make sure I introduce myself to everyone?
