Verification of commutative law under Addition and Multiplication using the number line is as follows:

The commutative law under Addition

  • (i) Draw a line and mark the numbers on it.
  • i) Make a jump to a count 2 and then a jump to a count 3. (2 + 3)
  • ii) Make a jump to a count 3 and then a jump to a count 2. (3 + 2)
  • Now compare the number on the number line obtained in step (i) and (ii)

The commutative law under Multiplication

  • (i) Draw a line and mark the numbers on it.
  • (ii) Make 2 jumps of 3, find the result (2 × 3)
  • (ii) Make 3 jumps of 2, find the result (3 × 2)
  • Now compare the number on the number line obtained in step (ii) and (iii)
