first take three 100ml glass syringes having less frictionless pistons. the nozzles of all the syringes ate closed by inserting them in sperated corks so as to prevent them from leakage. remove the pistons of all the syringes
(i)in the first syringe , we fill common salt (which is a solid). Then insert the piston back into the syringe.
(ii) in the second syringe,we fill water (which is a liquid). Then insert the piston bacl into the syringe.
(iii)in the third syringe, we do not fill anything. It is already filled with air. We just pust the piston back in it.
We jow place 50 gram of weight on the top of piston of each of syringe to put pressure on common salt, watet and air filled in them.
OBSERVATION:
(i)the piston of the first syringe containing common salt does not move down on putting weight. this shows on applying pressure the volume of common salt does not get compressed as it is a solid.
(ii)the piston of second syringe containing water also does not move on putting weight. this also shows that on applying pressure the volume of water does not get compressed as it a liquid.
(iii)the piston of the third syringe containing air moves considerably on putting weight. this shows that on applying pressure the volume of air gets compressed as it is a gas.
