Answer:

Hello!❤️

Take a beaker, half fill it with water. Cut a small piece of sodium metal.Dry it using a filter paper and wrap it in a small piece of Cotton. Put the piece of sodium wrapped in Cotton into the beaker. We observe that the beaker becomes hot immediately. We test the solution with red and blue litmus paper. It turns red litmus blue. This activity indicates that sodium is highly reactive and it reacts vigorously with water with a lot of heat generation. The solution is basic in nature.

Answer:

Sodium metal reacts rapidly with water to form a colourless solution of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and hydrogen gas (H2). The resulting solution is basic because of the dissolved hydroxide. During the reaction, the sodium metal may well become so hot that it catches fire and burns with a characteristic orange colour.
