Aim:To show electrolysis of water
Materials Required:A Beaker,an anode and a cathode,Water and a battery and switch
Connect the anode to the positive terminal of the battery and the cathode to the negative terminal.Dip the electrodes inside the water. Switch on the switch.
Observation:Hydrogen gets deposited in the cathode and oxygen gets deposited at the anode

"Electrolysis of water activity:
If we have to separate two atoms, we need to have minimum energy. This energy is supported by the battery. The terminal is attached with the battery which can act as a bridge for ion transportation. Therefore, we have to add baking soda to the pure water for this experiment.
Required apparatus:
Battery, plastic container, Stopwatch, Lemon, Salt, Detergent, test tubes, and Baking soda.
Procedure:
- At the bottom, place thumbtacks so that the points placed in the container can be forwarded up. Make the space between the battery terminals equal.
- Place the container over the thumbtacks of the battery terminals.
- Fill up the container with the distilled water slowly.
- Add a small quantity of baking soda. Hold firmly and then collect the evolved gas using the test tube. This procedure is done for the following combinations also. (Water and salt, Water and lemon juice and finally water and detergent).
Conclusion:
If we observe three combinations of (Water and salt, Water and lemon juice and finally water and detergent), the baking soda produces a high amount of electricity because it is easily dissociated into its ions."
