An activity to show that molecules move in a zig zag path rather moving in a straight path and to prove that the molecules are in continuous motion.

Materials required = A perfume bottle, a empty room

Procedure

• close all the doors and windows of the room and switch off all the fans
• spray the perfume in one corner of the room

• sit towards the another corner of the room

Observation

You will see that you are able to smell the perfume in any of the three corners of the room.

Conclusion

Because of diffusion of molecules of perfume and the air and the zigzag motion of the room you are able to smell the scent also after 10 minutes you will be able to smell the perfume hence the molecules are in continous motion.
