activity to show that sound needs material medium for propagation

take a bell jar and keep an electric bell init.the bell jar is connected to the vacuum pump.initially when we press the bell we can hear its sound .But as we switch on the air inside the jar gradually the sound of bell becomes fainter and finally when all the air is removed we hear no sound . which shows that sound needs a material medium for its propagation.
