In the process of photosynthesis, green plants convert energy of light into carbon dioxide and water into carbohydrates.

With the help of photosynthetic pigment on the plant which is known as chlorophyll the light energy gets absorbed and through the leaf stomata, air containing CO2 and O2 enters the plant.

ANSWER:

The process of photosynthesis is very essential for the plant to produce food. The process requires the presence of light, water, minerals and nitrogen. The most common experiment to study the factors light and water essential for photosynthesis is Moll's half leaf experiment.

EXPLANATION:

  • In this experiment the plant is kept in the darkness for 2 to 3 days for the process of de-starching.
  • After 8 days the half leaf of the plant is inserted into a bottle which comprised of potash.
  • The corks are fitted to make it air tight. The leaf was left for 10 hours.
  • The starch was found negative inside the bottle and it was positive for the whole plant.
