Answer:

Climate and Average Weather in Spain

Because Spain has a varied landscape and mainly consists of mountain areas, many different climates can be found in this country (Mediterranean climate, continental climate, maritime climate, desert climate, high mountain climate and even a subtropical climate.). Most people think of Spain as an always sunny and warm country, however this does not always apply. In summer the weather is indeed sunny and warm and even extremely warm in the interior. However this does not apply everywhere for winter months. In large parts of Spain winter months really feel cold and like winter.

Spain however is still a popular winter destination and that is also not surprising with the wonderful climate at the coast. Mainly the Costa Blanca is extremely popular in winter. The Canaries are also a perfect winter destination. In the winter, temperatures are around 18 degrees Celsius (64 Fahrenheit) on the coast and in the Canary Islands around 23 degrees Celsius (74 F).

The north of Spain has to do with a maritime climate which means that both summer and winter months are mild with relatively high rainfall. Central Spain has to do with a continental climate, where summers are extremely hot and winter is cold with little to no precipitation.

In the Pyrenees and on the Sierra Nevada you can ski in winter and in spring. Temperature differences in this area can be as high as 25 degrees (77 F), from the coast to the Sierra Nevada in that period. Spring (April-June) and autumn (September-November) are the best seasons to visit Spain.
