the meaning of the line the average kinetic energy of a substance accounts for temperature of the substance is that if the temprature of a substance is more than its kinetic energy will be more. it is because if a substance has more temperature than its particles will be further apart from each other and if the particles will be far from each other then it will be able to move and thus it will causes more kinetic energy is this proves that the more the temperature of substances the more its kinetic energy is.

hope it helps
