Given: In triangle ABC , DE || BC ,AD=5CM ,DB = 10CM , AE=4.5 CM

TO FIND : AC

SOLUTION:

IN TRIANGLE ABC DE || BC

THEREFORE AD/DB= AE/EC

BY BASIC PROPORTIONALITY THEOREM

SUBSTITUTING THE VALUES ,

5/10=4.5/EC

EC = 4.5×10÷5

EC = 4.5 × 2=9

therefore EC= 9CM

Adding AE AND EC

AE+EC = 4.5+9=13.5 CM

AC IS EQUAL TO 13.5 CM
