Basically the root hair is adapted for absorption as it has a large surface area which speeds up the process of the diffusion of water and minerals from the root to the rest of the plant. The Xylem vessels have thick walls made of lignin which is a very hard and strong material, hence providing support for plants.

The root hairs are specially adapted for absorption of water because—

1— Semipermeable membrane of the root hair permits water and Minerals molecules to enter into the cell sap but does not allow them to come out.

2— Cell sap in the root hair has higher concentration than the surrounding soil.

3— Large vacuole can absorb much water .

4— The root hairs provide a large surface area for absorption.
