Given to add the following terms :-

2a+b,3a+7b,a-3b

Concept to know :-

For adding the terms we have to add only like terms We cannot add unlike terms

Lets do !

Step :- 1

Write the terms

2a+b,3a+7b,a-3b.

Step :- 2

Add the terms

2a + b + 3a + 7b + a - 3b

Step :- 3

Keep like terms together

  • Like terms with respect to variable a

2a , 3a , a

  • Like terms with respect to variable b

b , 7b , -3b

Step :- 3

Now arrange them to add

2a + 3a + a + b + 7b + (-3b)

2a + 3a + a + b + 7b - 3b

Step :- 4

Simplify the expression 2a + 3a + a + b + 7b - 3b

5a + a + 8b -3b

6a + 5b

Hence we cannot add the terms As , the variables are different hence they are unlike terms

So, the sum of 2a+b,3a+7b,a-3b is 6a + 5b
