Answer:

When we add HCl to Mixture Fe and Sulphur, a gas will be evolved... This gas will burn with a pop sound, it is odourless and colourless. This gas is Hydrogen.

Fe + S + HCl - - - - - > FeCl + S + H (gas formed)

But when we add HCl to Iron sulphide or FeS, another gas will be evolved, but we won't be able to stand its pungent, rotten egg smell. This gas is Hydrogen Sulphide

FeS + HCl - - - - - - > FeCl + H2S

These are the observations we see...

When we add dilute HCl to a mixture of Fe and sulphur an odourless and colourless hydrogen gas is evolved.

  • The reaction between HCl and a mixture of Fe and sulfur is-
  • Fe+S+2HCl\rightarrow FeCl_2+H_2+S
  • When we add HCl to a mixture of Fe and S, gas will be evolved. This gas will burn with a pop sound, it is odourless and colourless. This gas is Hydrogen.

When we add dilute HCl to iron sulphide hydrogen sulfide gas is evolved.

  • The reaction between FeS and HCl is-
  • FeS+2HCl\rightarrow FeCl_2+H_2S
  • when we add HCl to Iron sulphide another gas will be evolved. This gas has a pungent, rotten egg smell. This gas is Hydrogen Sulphide.
