-2 + 2/5 = -2/1 + 2/5 = (-10+2) / 5 = -8/5

-8/5 is also a rational number as it can be expressed in the form of p/q where p = -8 and q = 5.

This is called closure property of addition for rational numbers.

If a and b are two rational numbers, then a+b is also a rational number.
