SOLUTION

TO DETERMINE

Add the additive inverse of (-11)/5 and the multiplicative inverse of 15/7

EVALUATION

We have to add the additive inverse of (-11)/5 and the multiplicative inverse of 15/7

Here

 \displaystyle \sf{Additive  \: inverse \:  of \:  -  \frac{11}{5} \:  \:   is  \:  \:  \frac{11}{5} }

 \displaystyle \sf{Multiplicative  \: inverse \:  of \:  \:   \frac{15}{7}  \:  \:   is  \:  \:  \frac{7}{15} }

Hence the required addition

 \displaystyle \sf{ =  \frac{11}{5}  +  \frac{7}{15}  }

 \displaystyle \sf{ =  \frac{33 + 7}{15}    }

 \displaystyle \sf{ =  \frac{40}{15}    }

 \displaystyle \sf{ =  \frac{8}{3}    }

FINAL ANSWER

The required answer

 \displaystyle \sf{ =  \frac{8}{3}    }

Answer

  • Additive inverse of a number "x" is -x

So, Additive Inverse of -11/5 = -(-11/5) = 11/5

  • Multiplicative is basically a reciprocal which means multiplicative inverse of a number "x" will be 1/x

So, Multiplicative Inverse of 15/7 = 7/15

Now, We are asked to Add Additive Inverse of -11/5 with Multiplicative Inverse of 15/7

11/5 + 7/15

⇒ 33/15 + 7/15

⇒ 40/15

⇒ (5 × 8)/(5 × 3)

8/3
