Since the denominators are of same positive numbers we can add them directly

(i) -5/7 + 3/7 = (-5+3)/7 = -2/7

(ii) -15/4 + 7/4 = (-15+7)/4 = -8/4

Further dividing by 4 we get,

-8/4 = -2

(iii) -8/11 + -4/11 = (-8 + (-4))/11 = (-8-4)/11 = -12/11

(iv) 6/13 + -9/13 = (6 + (-9))/13 = (6-9)/13 = -3/13

  • We have to evaluate the above expression by using the given data.

             Given data:- \frac{-3}{19} +\frac{-9}{19} .

             To find:- Value of the given expression.

             Solution:-

  • We will take the LCM of the denominators, and make denominators the same.
  • We will Convert the given fractions to equivalent fractions with the denominator as the LCM.
  • Adding the numerators over the denominators.

        Therefore,

         \begin{array}{l}\frac{-3}{19}+\frac{-9}{19} \\=\frac{-3+-9}{19} \\=-\frac{12}{19}\end{array}

     Hence we will get the value is \begin{array}{l}\frac{-3}{19}+\frac{-9}{19}=-\frac{12}{19}.\end{array}
