To solve : \frac{43}{8} + \frac{5}{16}

Solution :

  • As per given condition we write ,\frac{43}{8 }+\frac{5}{16}$
  • To find the sum of given rational numbers we get need to equalize denominators of both the rational numbers. By taking LCM
  • Therefore, LCM = 16
  • Now, multiplying numerators of both rational numbers by same number as multiplied by denominators to make LCM.
  • Therefore, we get, $\frac{43}{8}+\frac{5}{16}=\frac{43 \times 2}{16}+\frac{5 \times 1}{16}$

              $$\begin{array}{l}=\frac{86}{16}+\frac{5}{16} \\=\frac{91}{16}\end{array}$$

Hence, sum of  \frac{43}{8} + \frac{5}{16} is  \frac{91}{16} which is improper fraction as numerator > denominator.
