addition of electron to Na is less exothermic because it is in need of gaining an electron so it will release energy after gaining the electron but Mg is table element because its shells are complete thus adding an electron to Mg is quit difficult hence we have to give energy to it add an electron and this is high thus this process is strongly endothermic process.
