1) when we react HBr with propene it gives 2- bromopropane due to MARKONIKOV RULE it states that when an unsymmetrical compound(propene) reacts with an unsymmetrical reagent(HBr) the reagent adds to the carbon which contains the least hydrogen
2) when this reaction takes place in the presence of peroxide the reagent attaches itself to the carbon that contains most no of Hydrogen this is known as the antimarkonikov rule
note: markonikov rule is only applicable on unsymmetrical alkenes
