The addition of the mixed fraction 3 whole (1 / 5) and 2 whole (1 / 10) is 5 whole (3 / 10).

• Given mixed fraction are, 3 whole (1 / 5) and 2 whole (1 / 10)

• To add the two mixed fraction, we  first must convert them into improper fraction.

• To convert a mixed fraction into an improper fraction, the following formula should be used :

Improper fraction = [ (Denominator × whole number) + Numerator ] / Denominator

• Therefore, 3 whole (1 / 5) = (5 × 3 + 1) / 5 = (15 + 1) / 5 = 16 / 5

2 whole (1 / 10) = (10 × 2 + 1) / 10 = (20 + 1) / 10 = 21 / 10

• Now, we have find (16 / 5) + (21 / 10).

Taking out the L.C.M. of 5 and 10, we get 10 as the value.

∴  (16 / 5) + (21 / 10)

= (16 × 2) + 21 ] / 10

= (32 + 21) / 10

= 53 / 10

= 5 whole (3 / 10)
