Addition of halogens to unsaturated compounds is called halogenation .

halogenation means addition of halogens

Halogen are group seven elements .

Off course these will be added to unsaturated compounds which have double or triple bond .

these bonds will break and will make bond with halogens .

And one other thing which you have to remember that is Markinokov's rule

\huge{\texbf{\purple{Markinokove's rule}}}

In addition of halogen acid (HX) to a compound that is unsaturated the H of HX will bind to the carbon that has more Hydrogen atoms while halogen will be added to the adjacent carbon atom .
