Additive inverse of a real number is negative of the same number

Additive inverse

  • Additive inverse of a number is a value which gives 0 on adding to the same number
  • For example let p be a natural number then the additive inverse of p is (-p)  as (-p) will give 0 on adding p like p+(-p) = p-p = 0
  • For  a natural number, a whole number, a decimal, a fraction, or any other integer the additive inverse is just the negative of the given number.
  • Simple way to find additive inverse of a number just take negative value of given number.

Let's see sum example

Additive inverse of a is - a as  a - a = 0

Additive inverse of - 9 is 9 as - 9 +9 = 0

Additive inverse of  \frac{p}{q}  is -\frac{p}{q}  as  \frac{p}{q} - \frac{p}{q} = 0

Additive inverse of 5.1 is -5.1 as  5.1 +(-5.1) = 5.1 - 5.1 = 0
