Adesh walked 200 m to North from his house. Then he turned through 90° and
walked 150 m to West. Again he turned through 90° and walked 300 to North.
After some time, he again turned through 90° and walked 150 m to West. Then he
turned through 90° to his left and walked 100 m to South. How far was he now
from his house?

Adesh is 500m far from his home in term of displacement. In term of distance, he is 900m far from his home.

  • Total distance = 200+150+300+150+100 = 900m
  • From starting point to end point,

                vertical distance between points = 400m

                horizontal distance between points = 300m

                 using Pythagoras theorem,

                 distance from his home = √(〖(vertical distance)〗^2+   〖(horizontal distance)〗^2 )

                                          = 500m
