Given :- Tap 1 alone (at full flow) can fill HALF the bucket in 2 minutes and Tap 2 alone (at full flow) can fill HALF the bucket in 3 minutes.

To Find :- In how much time will the bucket get filled completely ?

Solution :-

→ Tap 1 alone can fill half bucket in = 2 minutes

So,

→ Tap 1 alone can fill full bucket in = 2 × 2 = 4 minutes .

then,

→ Tap 1 per minute fill bucket = (1/4) part

similarly,

→ Tap 2 alone can fill half bucket in = 3 minutes

So,

→ Tap 2 alone can fill full bucket in = 2 × 3 = 6 minutes

then,

→ Tap 2 per minute fill bucket = (1/6) part

therefore,

→ Tap 1 and Tap 2 fill bucket in 1 minute = (1/4) + (1/6) = (3 + 2)/12 = (5/12) part .

hence,

→ Total time taken by both tank to fill full bucket = 1/(5/12) = (12/5) minutes = 2.4 minutes (Ans.)

∴ Both taps can fill the bucket completely in 2.4 minutes .
