Adipose tissue or the fat tissue is a good storehouse of reserve food matter because it contains fat cells or adipocytes that synthesize large globules of ‘fat deposits’ that are able to metabolize to food when required by the body.  

Energy and food is derived from these fat cells when the body starves or is under extreme exertion. When required, lipase is activated by glucagon, norepinephrine, epinephrine, and adrenocorticotropin, which binds to adipocyte receptors and cause lipolysis of triacylglycerol into fatty acids and glycerol. This is then utilized by the body.
