Solution:

Adjacent sides of a rectangle and diagonal forms a right angle triangle

Pythagoras' theorem: square on the hypotenuse of a right-angled triangle is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two perpendicular sides.

5²  + 12²  = Diagonal²

=> 25 + 144 = Diagonal²

=> 169 = Diagonal²

=> 13²  = Diagonal²

=> 13 = Diagonal

Hence diagonal is _13_____cm.*

Answer :-

As we know that,

  • Adjacent sides of a rectangle are length and breadth .
  • Angles between adjacent sides of a rectangle is equal to 90° .

so, using pythagoras theorem in right angled ∆, we get,

→ Length² + Breadth² = Diagonal²

→ 12² + 5² = Diagonal²

→ 144 + 25 = Diagonal²

→ Diagonal² = 169

→ Diagonal² = 13²

→ Diagonal = 13 cm. (2) (Ans.)

Hence, the length of diagonal of rectangle is 13 cm.
