When Rangpur became administrative centre of Upper Assam after retreat of the Burmese in January, 1825, the whole of the Brahmaputra valley came under the British military occupation and subsequently martial law was extended to Upper Assam and Sadiya.

WHEN RANGPUR ADMINISTRATIVE CENTRE OF UPPER ASSAM AFTER RETREAT OF THE BUREMISES IN JANUARY , 1825, THE WHOLE OF THE BRAHMAPUTRA VALLEY CAME UNDER THE BRITISH MILITARY OCCUPATION AND SUBSEQUENTLY MATERIAL WAS EXTENDED TO UPPER ASSAM AND SADIYA.
