Area of The remaining portion (the wall)= area of the door - area of the wall

hence,

Area of wall = l×b

= 4.5×3.6

=16.2m sq.units------(1)

Area of the door= l×b

= 2×1

= 2m sq.units-----------(2)

Area of the remaining portion= 1-2

= 16.2m-2m

=14.2 m sq.units

Cost of whitewashing 1m sq. of the wall= ₹20

Cost of whitewashing 14.2msq.units= 14.2×₹20

=₹284

Therefore, the cost of whitewashing the wall is ₹284.
