Some advanced features of vertebrates over protochordates are:

*The notochord is either replaced entirely by the vertebral column or is present along with the vertebral column.

*The heart is divided into chambers and has RBC in the blood.

*Each verterbra has a distinct sex. The only exception is in the case of some fish.

*When fertilization takes place, the sperm and the ovum unite in the animal pole pathway.

vertebrates are chordates possessing a dorsal, hollow nerve cord, a notochord which maybe persistent or is replaced by vertebral column and paired pharyngeal gill slits( during embryonic stages atleast).

cranium is present.

endostyle is absent in the adult stages.

atrium the space between the pharynx and the body wall is absent.

heart is chambered with corpuscles in the blood.

during fertilisation, the sperm unites with the ovum in the  pathway of animal pole.
